When you are looking for a leader on the Inman High cross country team, you only need to look for senior Nicholas Martisko to fill the bill.

Martisko enters his final season running for the Teutons with the hopes of returning to the State Championships for the fourth season in a row after qualifying in each of his first three years running for sixth-year Head Coach Jay Parsons.

When looking for the strength of the 2019 team, Coach Parsons is quick to acknowledge the senior, saying, “Hopefully Nicholas (Martisko) can make a fourth consecutive trip to the state meet. I know he has made it a goal to finish his senior year with yet another trip.”

Martisko is not the only runner with state experience as Lady Teuton senior Aisjha Miles looks to cap off her final season with a trip as well after qualifying for state in her sophomore season.

While the Teutons lose Nathan Bashore and Sean Jenson to graduation, Martisko is joined on the boys team with returnees Brenton Thiessen and Peter Buller.

Miles will be joined on the Lady Teuton team by newcomers Hannah Martisko and Dawn Gunter.

Coach Parsons concluded his pre-season reflections by adding, “Brenton (Thiessen) and Peter (Buller) came into this season looking very good and determined to join Nicholas (Martisko) in Wamego. I too would like to see both of them making a trip there as well. Hannah (Martisko) is a first-year runner, but so far looks very capable of having a good season. It would be great to have more runners so that we could compete as a team, but despite that, I know each of the runners are still motivated to run their best as an individual and I appreciate that.”

The Teuton cross country team kicks off their 2019 season on Thursday, September 5 at Tescott.
