Lyle Silsby heads into his 15th season as Head Coach of the Canton/Galva cross-country team knowing his team is very young yet is led by one above average runner in Morgan Becker.

Becker, running as just a freshman in 2018, ran his way all the way to the State Championships last fall, where he managed to finish just in the top-25 at 25th place.

The other two key returnees for Silsby will be junior Sarah Kendall and sophomore Christian Darrah, while five newcomers are looking to push for solid times, including senior Sofia Boninsegna, juniors Aleah Peres and Andrew Prieb, plus freshmen Ethan Unruh and Isaiah Patton.

“Our strength will be our two returning sophomores, Morgan (Becker) and Christian (Darrah),” noted Coach Silsby. “Morgan will be working to make it back to state for the second year in a row, and Christian has been working hard to make his first trip. Sofia (Boninsegna) has looked pretty strong so far, and I am anxious to see how much she can improve.”

Coach Silsby concluded his pre-season comments by adding, “We are just working on getting into shape the other newcomers and will see how the season progresses and how much they can improve.”

The Eagle harriers will open the 2019 season on Thursday, September 5 with a run against Tescott.
