CENTRAL CHRISTIAN GOLFERS DOMINATE AT HESSTON

The day couldn’t be sweeter for the Central Christian Men & Women golf teams. The Tigers made the road-trip to Hesston Golf Course on Saturday and competed in the first ever Clash of Conferences Tournament. The Tournament consisted of two SAC teams going against two KCAC teams. The morning round would consist of 18 holes of stroke play that would seed each of the teams for the match play during the afternoon round.
The men and women both found success in the morning round as they both would lead the pack in the tournament. For the women they played with Friends, Tabor, and OPSU. The women shot a round of 340 to find themselves ahead of 2nd place Friends by 23 strokes. The Lady Tigers were paced by senior Kari Kirl who shot the low round of the tournament 81. Kendra Jellison another senior shot an 85, Vanessa Warner and Baily Bowman both came in with 87’s. Alyssa Ramirez came in with a 97 and Grace Little who played as an individual shot 95. Coach Moody was pleased to see that the ladies haven’t lost their steam from their last year success.
The Ladies wouldn’t slow down for the afternoon round, as they went on to dominate all their matches. The Lady Tigers won all their matches winning 5 points for the Sooner Athletic Conference and the OPSU women did their job to win two of their matches which would guarantee that the Sooner Athletic Conference would win the Cup.
The Men came out firing on all cylinders as well as they found themselves with the lowest round in the tournament with a score of 293. They were ahead of conference competitor OPSU who shot a 300. The Tigers were paced by Fisher Kautsch who shot his first ever under par round in his collegiate career. Tied for second was freshman Cristian Cardiel & junior Nathan Segler who shot 74, senior Matt Rettinger was right behind them with a score of 75 and Tyler Swanson rounded them out with a 76. The Tigers also had 4 individuals who played and Trehern McGill shot a 79, Mark Ostruske, shot an 81, Connor Stephenson shot an 82, and Kyle Bovee who shot a 103. Coach Kyle Moody was pleased with their performance and with a relatively new look at the top 5 the Tigers, they showed promise for the season ahead.
The men also dominated the afternoon matches as they took on Bethel College. They would take 4 of 5 matches to help the Sooner Athletic Conference to an 8-2 win over the KCAC to get the cup. In all, the Tigers won 13 of 15 of their matches and both teams dominated the stroke play portion. The Tiger varsity team will be heading to OKC to compete in the Oklahoma City University tournament hosted at Lincoln Park.
