Battling a hot, humid day, the McPherson High junior varsity girls tennis team came played a few points short on Tuesday hosting their Lady Bullpup Invitational and finished second to Buhler.

Buhler took the Invitational Championship with 27 team points while McPherson scored 22 to place second, well ahead of Valley Center and Haysville-Campus who finished with 17 and 14 team points respectively. Great Bend, Hesston and Hutchinson rounded out the field of participants.

The Lady Bullpups took second place in three of the four divisions as Grace Witte in number one singles, Sydney Achilles and Taylor Berger in number one doubles, and Lakynn Lippelmann and Amethyst Hale in number two doubles all went 3-1 for the day. Loghan Engelbrecht at number two singles went 1-2 for the invite and placed fourth.

“It was a hot humid day, but our girls showed all kinds of fight making the finals in three of the four divisions,” noted Head Coach Tyler Brown. “We just needed a few more big points for it to go our way. If this group of girls can find a little more consistency in their overall games, they will continue to make runs as a team and will be in the hunt of winning every junior varsity tournament. I was proud of our effort today along with our team sticking around and cheering each other until the very end.”

Next up for the Lady Bullpup junior varsity tennis team will be on Tuesday, September 10 when they play host to Andover, Goddard Eisenhower, Haysville-Campus, Hutchinson and Newton.
