The 2019 season has begun for the McPherson High junior varsity volleyball team and they began by splitting a triangular with Winfield and Circle at home on Tuesday.

In the match with Winfield the sets were close, but the Lady Bullpups never gave in and scored a straight set victory 25-20, 25-20.

“Winfield came out early and really pushed us,” noted Junior Varsity Coach Melissa Bradshaw. “It was a close set one, but we rallied back and were able to find our offensive rhythm in set two.”

While McPherson took both sets against Circle into extra points, they came up short, falling 24-26, 25-27 in both sets.

For the match with Circle, Coach Bradshaw added, “We were back and forth most of both sets. Although serving was a bit of a struggle for us tonight, I’m proud of the energy we found in the second match. Our junior players are stepping up in big ways and taking control when we really need them.”

As for the overall view of their 2019 opening matches, Coach Bradshaw concluded her reflections by saying, “I could not have been prouder of the leadership from our two junior captains tonight. Lexi (Kynaston) lead our team in kills with 14 and Megan (Lulloff) followed with nine. These two played aggressive but smart. I’m excited to see them continue to push our team this season. The sophomores also really added to the offensive scheme as Kaylee (Zietlow) was able to tally 30 assists on the night, and Avery (Strathman) had five kills.”
