The Central Christian College men’s golf team traveled to Oklahoma City to participate in the UC Ferguson Tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday. The tournament was hosted by Oklahoma City Uiversity.
The Tiger men finished 10th our of 12 teams competing as they were challenged in one of the best field of golfers in the NAIA.
Due to the rough greens, Central Christian got off to a slow start and started off round one on Tuesday with a 315 as Tyler Swanson led the team with a 77. The afternoon round was better for the Tigers as they made some slight adjustments and improved their score to a 309 to put themselves in 11th place after the first day of play. Sophomore Fisher Kautsch led the Tigers in the afternoon round with a 74.
Central Christian got some rest and prepared for the final 18 holes on Wednesday where they played even better than the second round on Tuesday by shooting a 302, which was good enough for the final 10th place finish. Wednesday round included another under par round by Kautsch, giving him a total of 223 which was good enough to finish tied for 27th-place.
As a team, the Tiger men saw improvement each time they started a new round and Coach Kyle Moody was glad to see his golfers make mid-round adjustments and improve each round they played.
Besides Kautsch’s performance, Nathan Segler had a solid performance by shooting 79-76-78, Matt Rettinger was one stroke behind with an 80-77-77, Tyler Swanson finished with 77-83-77, and freshman Cristian Cardiel came in with an 80-82-78. Coach Moody looks forward to the season knowing his guys left strokes out towards the end and will shift his focus on coming in with a strong finish for the next tournament.
Both the Tiger men and women golfers will tee it up next week when they travel to Marshall, Missouri to participate in the Missouri Valley College Fall Invitational on Monday, September 9 and Tuesday, September 10.
