It took three matches before the Smoky Valley volleyball team earned their first victory on the road in Abilene on Thursday as they finished 1-2 for the day.

The Lady Vikings got off to a rough start as they lost in straight sets during a close battle with Concordia, 22-25, 23-25. Next up was Thomas More Prep and they also took down Smoky Valley in straight sets, losing 20-25, 18-25.

Taking on host Abilene to close out the day, the Lady Vikings bounced back and fought through three sets (25-19, 25-27, 25-23) before gaining their victory for the day.

Several Lady Vikings had strong performances for the day, including Kerington Haxton with 18 digs, McKinley Johnson with a whopping 33 assists, Elyse Ramsey with 28 saves and Abby Rose scoring 31 kills.

“This quad consists of four really good teams so none of the games were blow outs and probably if we played again tomorrow, the wins and losses would look differently for each team,” commented Lady Viking Head Coach Sharlene Ramsey. “Abilene went 0-3 but played three sets with all three teams, while Concordia went 3-0, Thomas More Prep finished 2-1 and we went 1-2. I was so proud of our girls for bouncing back to take Abilene in three sets for the last game of the night.”

The Viking spikers will be back on the court on Tuesday, September 10 for a home match.
