HUTCHINSON – After dropping their first two matches of the day, the McPherson High volleyball team bounced back to win their final four matches to finish 4-2 on Saturday at the AVCTL Preseason Tournament in Hutchinson.

While they did not get blown out, the Lady Bullpups found themselves struggling against match number one against Goddard before losing (23-25, 15-25) and then again in match two against Andover before dropping their second match in a row (17-25, 23-25).

But once they stepped up to the net to battle Dodge City, the mojo returned and McPherson got win number one on the day (25-19, 25-13) before building on that win to score victories over Campus in straight sets (25-13, 25-15), Valley Center in three sets (27-25, 19-25, 25-21) and another extra set match with Maize (25-22, 21-25, 25-10) to finish 4-2 for the day.

With the results of Saturday, the Lady Bullpups now sit at 6-2 for the young season.

Among the team leaders for the day were Rhian Swanson who earned credit for 53 kills, while Cassie Cooks and Andrea Sweat each scored 36 and 31 kills respectively.

Brette Doile had the most aces for the Lady Bullpups with 11 while Taylor Casebeer, Lauren Labertew and Sweat scored 35, 23 and 19 digs for the tournament.

One side point to the day, Lady Bullpup Head Coach Christy Doile earned her 400th career victory with the first match win over Dodge City.

Next up for the McPherson spikers was a triangular scheduled for Tuesday at Rose Hill with Rose Hill and Augusta.
