It was a game of near domination for the McPherson High junior varsity girl’s tennis team as they won three of four divisions on their own home court while running away with the team championship of the Bullpup Junior Varsity Invitational.
When came to the team scoring, the Lady Bullpups totaled 22 points, outdistancing by a large margin second-place Haysville/Campus who had 13. Andover rounded out the top three with 10 points while Goddard Eisenhower, Hutchinson and Newton rounded out the field of six teams.
Individually, nobody could stop the McPherson doubles tandems as both Maddie Dobson and Taylor Berger in number one doubles, and the duo of Lakynn Lippelmann and Amethyst Hale in number two doubles finished the invitational in first place and unbeaten in all three matches they played.
Grace Witte went 3-0 in number one singles to take first, while Loghan Engelbrecht finished 2-1 and in second place for number two singles.
“It was a good day to be a Bullpup,” noted Head Coach Tyler Brown in some post-invitational reflections. “Everyone made the finals in their division and we won three of the four divisions. At most JV tournament, if you can keep a solid struck ball in play – you will probably win 90% of the points played. I also felt like we kept our double fault at a minimum as well. Those two things are a terrific receipt for success.”
The junior varsity netters have a one-day break before returning to the courts on Thursday when they play at the Buhler Junior Varsity Invitational. The Lady Bullpups varsity tennis team will play on Saturday at the Salina Central Invitational.
