It was a rough night for the Elyria Christian volleyball team as they battled hard but came up short on both matches on Tuesday against Herington and Goessel.

In the first match with Herington, the Lady Eagles just could not stop their top players and lost in straight sets (19-25, 10-25) despite Merrick Robertson getting 4 kills, 5 digs and 2 aces.

The straight set loss to Goessel (18-25, 22-25) was even harder to take as they bounced back from being 11 points down in the second set only to lose by just three points. Alisse Hobson and Alexus Swenson led Elyria in the Goessel battle as they each scored 6 digs.

“We had some great moments,” noted Lady Eagle Head Coach Jayme Gardner. “Often followed by moments where we would fall apart. Herington is a good team and we couldn’t stop them at the net.”

“Against Goessel we were down 13-2, but were able to turn that around only to lose 22-25,” added Coach Gardner as she concluded her post-match reflections. “Despite the loss, I feel that it just proves we are a team who wants to win. We are still figuring things out, but in a few weeks, I believe we will be right where we want to be.”

The Elyria Christian spikers will return to action on Tuesday, September 17 when they play host to Centre on senior night.

In the Lady Eagle junior varsity matches, they tied Herington (13-25, 25-12) as Kortney Potter scored 5 aces, had 6 digs and 6 assists, before also splitting two sets with Goessel (25-21, 12-25) when Kathleen Rohaus had 3 aces and 13 digs.
