Tonight, the Lady Tigers took on crosstown rival McPherson College in a match anticipated to be a close and physical one. The Tigers are coming off a tough loss at home and looking to rebound and get back into the win column and after last year’s match when the Lady Bulldogs had the upper hand and won 2-0, the Lady Tigers would like to change things this year.

In the first half, things went as expected as defense was the name of the game. Rachel Schlagel got Central Christian on the board in the 11th minute on an assist from Alexa Riddle. The Lady Bulldogs would then tie the game later in the half after some defensive mishaps on the Lady Tigers behalf. Both teams then adjusted, and the defenses didn’t allow for any opportunities from the other team to score and both teams went into halftime tied at 1-1.

At the beginning of the second half things weren’t looking good for the Lady Tigers as they were committing numerous turnovers and the Lady Bulldogs were looking to start to take control of the game. After nearly 10 minutes in the half, McPherson College scored their second goal of the night, putting them ahead 2-1.

The Lady Tigers refocused and got back into the game in the 80th minute with a goal from Mariah Godinez after a beautiful cross assist from Alyssa Emery. The Lady Bulldogs unfortunately had a player injury that would then delay the game for a bit. Central Christian would take advantage of the rest and came back ready to go and at the 85 minute mark, Allison Harper passed from nearly midfield to Alexa Riddle who would then head it over the Lady Bulldog goalkeeper to give the Lady Tigers the 3-2 lead and Riddle the game winning goal.

It was an exciting night as the Lady Tigers got back into the win column and collected a win from crosstown rival McPherson College.

Central Christian College women’s soccer team will be back in action on Saturday, September 14 when they host Hastings College with the opening kick happening at 2:00 p.m.
