HESSTON – He did it, Inman cross country leader Nicholas Martisko went back to Hesston on Thursday and once again brought home gold as a senior, just as he did in 2018 as a junior.

Martisko ran a 17:21.90 to take first and finish over a minute faster than Jerah Schmidt of Goessel who finished second running an 18:28.50. By winning the Teuton star made it two years straight winning the Class 1-2-3A senior division.

While Martisko was the highlight for the Teutons, he was not the only runner who had a good day running alongside 52 other teams as Lady Teuton Aisjha Miles medaled for the third time in four years by placing 19th in her division while sophomore Hannah Martisko ended up running eighth in the sophomore girls division.

“Nicholas (Martisko) defended his small division title from last year as a junior by finishing first this year as a senior,” commented Teuton Head Coach Jay Parsons. “Aisjha (Miles), who medaled as a freshman, missed medaling by one placing as a sophomore, medaled last year in the junior race, once again medaled her final race. Hannah (Martisko) medaled in the sophomore race, which is hopefully the start of her run of medals at this meet. Peter (Buller) and Brenton (Thiessen) didn’t finish in the medals but ran very good races despite Peter missing last week due to an injury and Brenton developing cramps during the race today. Dawn (Gunter) also turned in a good time, which now gives her an idea of what she can do and a time she can build on.”

Coach Parsons concluded his reflections by noting, “Scoring with only three runners, the Inman girls of Aisjha, Hannah and Dawn, finished 20th as a team. We run at Bennington next week and that course is a little hillier but still a fast course. Hopefully each runner can take their performance today and run just as well or better then.”

Next week the Teuton harriers will travel to Bennington on Thursday, September 19.
