SEDGWICK – Despite having to be moved to an entirely new location, the Canton/Galva volleyball team rolled with the change and went 3-2 for the day on Saturday while participating in the Goessel Volleyball Invitational.
Due to issues with the gymnasium floor in Goessel, Sedgwick was kind enough to make a floor available so the games could continue on, and that they did.
The Lady Eagles started out the day with two straight, straight sets victories over Fairfield (25-11, 25-14) and Wichita Independent (25-18, 25-17) before they struggled and dropped a straight set match with Sedgwick (14-25, 19-25) during pool play.
Canton/Galva followed that up with another loss in bracket play at the hands of cross county rival Moundridge (12-25, 9-25) before finishing out the day by bouncing back and scoring a hard fought three set victory over Central Christian (25-16, 18-25, 25-23) to finish in third-place on the day.
“We finished the tournament in third place after a hard fight last game against Central Christian,” noted Lady Eagle Head Coach Cloe Hedlund. “As a team, we stayed consistent throughout the day which helped keep us in the running for third place. We started on a high with the two wins against Fairfield and Wichita Independent. Then we had a couple of big challenges with Sedgwick and Moundridge which we lost in two sets each. We are very proud of the team playing as a unit today and respecting one another’s abilities.”
Next up for the Lady Eagle spikers will be on Tuesday when they host a quad on what will also be Senior Night.
