SOLOMON – It most likely was not how the day was meant to go, but the Elyria Christian prevailed and went 2-3 on Saturday while participating in the Solomon Volleyball Tournament.

In the first match of the day, the Lady Eagles lost in straight sets to host Solomon (20-25, 19-25). Merrick Robertson earned five kills and Olivia Clark made six digs for Elyria.

Elyria Christian bounced back in match two by knocking off Tescott (23-25, 25-18, 25-19) despite losing the first set forcing the match to go the length of three sets. Robertson once again had the team lead with 11 kills while Alexus Swenson made double digits in digs with 11.

Next came two straight losses, though both the straight set loss to Wakefield (22-25, 23-25) and the three-set loss to Peabody/Burns (25-27, 25-17, 21-25) were extremely lengthy and hard fought matches. Against Wakefield Kilynn Starburg scored six kills and Swenson had 10 digs to lead the Lady Eagles, while Swenson had a huge match against Peabody/Burns by earning 13 digs and 24 good serves with one ace and just one error. Ryland Hawkinson led the team in kills in the match with eight.

Perseverance prevailed for the Elyria Christian spikers as they bounced back and scored a straight set (25-14, 25-23) win over Schlagle as Robertson led the way with 21 good serves that included six aces and zero errors.

The Elyria Christian volleyball team will be at home on Tuesday when they play host to Centre on what will be Senior Night.
