On Sunday, the McPherson College women’s soccer team hosted the Hasting College Broncos, who came into the contest ranked no. 9 in the NAIA preseason top 25 poll.
The Bulldogs fell to the Broncos 6-0, but for 52 minutes, the Bulldogs went toe to toe with the nationally ranked Bronco side. The Broncos scored a lone goal late in the first half, but the Bulldogs went into the half feeling very confident in the way they were playing.
Six minutes into the second frame, the Broncos struck again, and at that point, the flood gates opened. In the end, the Bulldogs conceded four more goals to Hastings in the 60th, 71st, 77th, and 84th minutes.
Despite the overwhelming advantage the Broncos had in the box score, out shooting the Bulldogs 29 to 1, the home team didn’t just run around the pitch playing kickball. At the half, Coach Olson said that one of the things this team does better than other teams he has coached, is that they “stick to the game plan”, that the coaching staff comes up with each week.
Shayna Thompson (Fr. North Las Vegas, Nev.) and Abby Jantz-Allison (Sr. McPherson, Kan.) combined for the loss in net for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs have the next nine days off before they begin KCAC play on the Tuesday, September 24th on the road against the Tabor College Bluejays.
