ELYRIA – It was a great way to honor the seniors as the Elyria Christian volleyball team hosted Centre on Tuesday for Senior Night and fought hard to win both matches and score a sweep for the evening over the visitors.

Match one got off on the wrong foot for the Lady Eagle spikers as Centre scored a 21-25 set one win before Elyria Christian battled back to take a nail biting two point, 27-25, win in set two. That put the match on the line in set three and the Lady Eagles came through to scdore a 25-20 win and the match victory.

Leading the way for the Lady Eagles in the first match was Merrick Robertson who scored 10 kills while making 22 digs.

In the second match of the day, the Lady Eagles were pressed to the limits by Centre once again as neither set had a difference of more than two points at the end, though Elyria won the final battle on the scoreboard with a straight set sweep at 27-25, 25-23.

Robertson once again led the way for the Lady Eagles by getting 13 more digs and scoring three more kills in the second match, while Kylee Penner contributed five kills and eight digs.

The Elyria Christian junior varsity spikers scored a dead even tie, literally, as the Lady Eagles scored a first set win of 26-24 before Centre earned a second set victory by the same score of 24-26.

Next up for the Elyria Christian volleyball team will come on Tuesday, September 24 when they travel to Wakefield for a triangular with Wakefield and Rural Vista.
