NORTH NEWTON, KS – After a tough stretch of non-conference games to open the 2019 season, the McPherson College volleyball team opened KCAC play with a 3-0 sweep of the Bethel College Threshers. The Bulldogs improved to 8-6 on the season and 1-0 in the KCAC defeating the Threshers 25-20, 25-20, 25-18.
The Bulldogs were dominant all night against a Bethel side that is much improved from a year ago, but is very young. Offensively, the Bulldog ladies had their way with the Threshers. They recorded a total of 45 kills in the match, for an average of 15 per set, committing just 13 errors is 99 swings, which gave them a .323 attack percentage for the match.
Defensively, they held the Threshers to a total of 29 kills, while forcing 19 errors on 107 attempts, for a hitting percentage of .093. At the net, the Bulldogs tallied eight blocks, and on the back line they dug up 45 balls.
Individually, the Bulldogs were led by:
- Kills: Sydney Burton (Jr. Stillwell, Kan.) – 15; Riley Bradbury (Jr. Castle Rock, Colo.) – 10

Bulldog head coach, Cory Cahill, was pleased with the Bulldogs’ performance saying, “We played a great match from start to finish. We played our game in a tough environment and it was great to come out with a win.”
The Bulldogs get some rare in season time off as they don’t play this weekend, and won’t be back on the hard wood until next Wednesday when they host the Tabor College Bluejays. First serve is slated for 7:00 pm at the Sport Center.
