BUHLER – Despite having to change their mindset, the McPherson High cross-country team still managed to earn two varsity medals and one junior varsity championship on Thursday at the Buhler Invitational.
The mindset change came from finding out late that the Buhler cross country course had changed from being hilly to being on flat ground.
Despite that change, to Lady Bullpup harriers earned medals as Courtney Eickbush finished 19th and Evie Elder ran 20th.
In the Junior Varsity race, the Bullpups Cody Achilles took first in the boy’s division.
“We had to change our mindset going into this race,” noted Bullpup Head Coach Aspen Lott. “We found out that the Buhler course had been changed from hills to flat ground, so we had to adjust our training to accommodate. Even with the heat, the runners still showed strength. We came out with two medals in our girls’ varsity and now look forward to racing at home next week on Thursday.”
Up next for the Bullpup cross country runners will be on Thursday, September 26 when they host the McPherson Bullpup Invitational to be held at McPherson’s Wall Park.
