ELLINWOOD – It proved to be a very rough road trip on Thursday for the Smoky Valley volleyball team as they dropped both ends of their triangular at Ellinwood.
The trip started out well as the Lady Vikings handled host Ellinwood in the first set, winning 25-21, before the tables were turned in the final two sets and Ellinwood bounced back to defeat Smoky Valley in the final two sets (14-25, 20-25) and win the match.
While they hung tough for both sets, the Lady Vikings could not outplay Great Bend in their second match of the day and lost in straight sets (18-25, 24-26).
“It was a tough night for the varsity team,” noted Lady Viking Head Coach Sharlene Ramsey. “We pushed Ellinwood to three sets but played a little slow. We battled well with a good Great Bend team, but it just wasn’t our night. We will need to bounce back and be ready to play next Tuesday night.”
For the Lady Viking junior varsity spikers, the day went a whole lot better as they scored two victories on the day by defeating Ellinwood (25-14, 25-12) before surviving a three-set battle with Great Bend (26-24, 13-25, 15-9).
Next up for the Lady Viking volleyball team will be a road trip to Clay Center on Tuesday, September 24.
