For the second week in a row the McPherson High football team played with a running clock for most of the second half in the process of rolling over visiting El Dorado 55-16 at home on Friday at McPherson College Stadium.

With the help of El Dorado turnovers, the Bullpups rolled out to a 21-0 first quarter lead thanks to three touchdowns by Jakob Feil from two one-yard scoring runs and then scampering into the end zone from 38 yards out on a pass from Kaleb Hoppes. Drew Schrader made good on all three extra-point kicks.

The Bullpups didn’t let up on the offensive throttle in the second quarter as they buried the Wildcats with five more scores to take a commanding 55-0 scoreboard advantage into the halftime break.

Scoring in the second quarter onslaught came from a 36-yard run by Hoppes, an 18-yard jaunt from Aiden Hoover, a 21-yard pass from Hoppes to Aaron Powell and two scoring throws from Dylan Rinker to Jonah Clarke and Cody Stufflebean from three and six yards out. Schrader connected on four of his five extra-point kicks.

While El Dorado did score twice in the third quarter, the clock was running and the game was pretty much out of hand for the visitors as the Bullpups gave many of their younger players to get some live action playing time as they closed out their 55-16 victory.

Offensively, McPherson dominated the stats as they rolled up 371 total yards with 223 coming on the ground and another 148 from throwing the ball around.

Individually, Jakob Feil covered 100 yards running the ball on just eight carries, while Hoppes added 84 on six while he completed five-of-thirteen passing for 86 more. Dylan Rinker got his fair share of snaps at quarterback and completed four of nine pass attempts for 62 yards and those two touchdowns. Rinker did complete two passes to the Wildcats. Powell was the leading receiver by hauling in four for 48 yards while Hoover and Feil covered 44 and 38 yards on one reception each.

Defensively, the Bullpups held El Dorado to just eight yards in offense in the first half and while they did gain 138 yards on the ground in the second half. The Wildcats did not complete a pass in the game and the Bullpup defense forced several fumbles of which Jake Houghton was able to recover two while the linebacker tandem of Mason Thrash and Brycen Labertew each recovering one. Hoover, Stufflebean, Clarke, Tyson Gottwald and Keaton Stockham also had strong defensive games for McPherson.

Next up for the Bullpups, now 3-0 on the season, will be a road trip to Abilene on Friday, September 27. Abilene is currently 0-3 on the season and will coming off a 36-21 loss to Chapman.
