LITTLE RIVER – Since the opening night humbling at Canton/Galva, the Little River football team has righted the ship and is steaming straight ahead at full throttle as they won for the second weekend in a row on Friday by dismantling Bennington 51-6 before the home fans.

Little River jumped out to a commanding 24-6 lead by the end of the first quarter before taking on another three scores in the second to head into the halftime break up 43-6. A score in the third quarter put the Redskins above the 45-point threshold for the point rule in 8-Man Division I football, and the game then ended early.

Since giving up 70 points to the Eagles in week one, the Redskin defense has put a steel gate on the end zone having now given up just six points in two games while scoring 100.

When Bennington did their best to pass their way back into the game, the Little River defense seemed to know the routes better than they did as they picked off four passes, including two by Jayden Garrison. Graham Stephens led the Redskin defense with six tackles that included one sack and one for loss of yardage, while Brayden Sears and Zane Kratzer each had five tackles.

When it came to offense, the Redskins seem to be running on all cylinders with Garrison and Stephens leading the way as they powered out 309 yards of offense on 32 plays from scrimmage, 257 of that coming on a spicy ground attack. Garrison ran for 151 yards and two touchdowns on just 12 carries while also completing three-of-five passes for another 31 yards and a score to Keaton Richardson. Stephens also carried the ball 12 times, covering another 102 yards and two scores while completing two passes for 21 yards and a score to Richardson as well.

Now 2-1 for the season, Little River will be on the road next Friday at Claflin to do battle with Central Plains. Central Plains is 1-2 for the season and coming off their first victory of 2019 when they got a 56-6 win over Kinsley.
