CANTON/GALVA – Faith McMannis may only be in fourth grade at Canton/Galva elementary school, but she is already leaving her mark for rodeo fans in the area as she has qualified to compete in barrel racing at the American Royal Youth Rodeo in Kansas City, Missouri.

The American Royal Youth Rodeo begins on Tuesday, September 24 and will run through Friday, September 27 in Hale Arena at the American Royal Complex.

During this rodeo, McMannis will participate against top student-athletes from across the Midwest. Since 2007, the American Royal has awarded over $80,000 in prize money at the Youth Rodeo along with additional awards.

McMannis is the only competitor from our area and is looking forward to the opportunity, saying, “I am really excited to compete at the American Royal. I’ve been practicing with my horse, Tiger, and we are hoping to have a fast, clean run.”

The event will be divided into Junior and Senior Divisions, with McMannis competing in the Junior Division barrel race, which is composed of athletes ages 13 and under, on Thursday, September 26. There is a total of 67 contestants entered in the Junior Division barrel race. The main performance begins at 12:00 p.m., and slack performance begins at 2:00.

Since the Youth Rodeo event happens just one time per year, it is an opportunity of a lifetime for McMannis. For those looking for further information regarding the Youth Rodeo, they can check online at www.americanroyal.com.
