BULLPUP JV NETTERS SWEEP DERBY INVITE!

DERBY – Tuesday was a day without very many blemishes for the McPherson High junior varsity girl’s tennis team as they traveled south to Derby and literally cleaned house at the Derby Junior Varsity Tennis Invitational by winning all four divisions and the team championship.
In the team standings the Lady Bullpups nearly doubled the points of their next closest opponent as they swallowed up 32 team points while Maize South was a very distant second with 18. Valley Center (16) and Haysville/Campus (15) rounded out the top four of the eight-team invitational.
As for the individual play, McPherson was totally dominant as they never lost a match in any of the four divisions and took first in each and every one as Taylor Berger and Grace Witte took first in singles and the tandems of Sydney Achilles and Maddie Dobson and Layknn Lippelmann and Amethyst Hale took first in both of the doubles divisions.
The Lady Bullpups were so dominating that they lost just one game out of 25 games in the four finals.
“The girls had another great tournament this afternoon,” commented Junior Varsity Head Coach Ricardo Sanchez after the invitational. “The girls were able to play their games and be aggressive as they won every division. The championship match scores were 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1. Grace (Witte) had an outstanding day, not dropping a single game throughout her three matches. She met a player from Derby in the finals that could match her power, but Grace took the challenge head on and stepped up her game to control each point. Outstanding day for the Lady Bullpups!”
On Saturday the Junior Varsity Lady Bullpup netters will return to action when they go on the road and play at the Great Bend Invitational.
