MOUNDRIDGE – You would think the Moundridge football team would not look past this weeks opponent, especially when they are coming off a major upset win over perennial powerhouse Solomon a week ago, but yet that is what they seemed to have done as Pratt/Skyline came to town on Friday and handed Moundridge a 60-14 drubbing.
The T-Birds scored twice in the first quarter and two more times in the second before Moundridge was able to finally find the end zone on a 35-yard scamper by quarterback Corbin Unruh. Pratt/Skyline scored two more times in the second stanza around a second Wildcat score that came on a 27-yard pass play from Unruh to Brady Helms, giving the T-Birds a commanding 44-14 halftime advantage.
After powering their way down the field to score two more short yardage touchdowns, the unbeaten T-Birds closed out the game early on the 8-Man point rules, 60-14.
The Moundridge defense couldn’t find a way to stop the power running attack of the T-Birds as they ran for 441 yards on 35 carries and had two runners, Jesus Casas and Braden Tyler go well over 100 yards with Casas picking up 244 and Tyler running for another 140. The dynamic duo also scored all seven of the T-Bird touchdowns.
Moundridge’s offense was only able to pick up 164 yards on 36 offensive plays with Unruh leading the team in rushing with 47 yards while Helms caught two passes for 46. Unruh was also five-of-nine passing for 64 yards.
Defensively, the Wildcats were led by Anthony Everhart who recorded eight tackles, seven of those being solo while both Helms and Jon Schlosser each earned credit for five-and-one-half tackles with two of those being solo.
The Wildcats are now just 2-2 for the season with the loss as they prep for a road trip next Friday to Macksville who is also 2-2 on the season but will be coming off a 46-0 win over St. John this weekend.
