TRAFFIC STOP TUESDAY – BICYCLE REFRESHER MEMO!!
This Traffic Stop Tuesday for October 1 is presented weekly by the McPherson Police Department.
(Today’s Traffic Stop is SPONSORED by CROSSDOVE WRITERS)
Just this month, McPherson has had two collisions involving bicycles.
Due to these collisions, we would like to bring your attention back to bicycles and highlight the Standard Traffic Ordinance on OVERTAKING A BICYCLE!
Additionally, BE ATTENTIVE to young riders who are making their way to and from school during the week.
In summary, Standard Traffic Ordinance 40© on OVERTAKING BICYCLES on the left says – the driver of a vehicle overtaking a bicycle proceeding in the same direction shall pass to the left thereof at a distance of not less than three feet and shall not again drive to the right side of the roadway until safely clear of the overtaken bicycle. The driver of a vehicle may pass a bicycle proceeding in the same direction in a no-passing zone with the duty to execute the pass only when it is safe to do so.
For BICYCLIST – be predictable in your movements and remember to follow all traffic laws as if you were another vehicle on the road!
LOOK TWICE – SAVE A LIFE!
