HAVEN – It was a goo road trip on Tuesday for the Smoky Valley volleyball team as they traveled to Haven and won both their matchups with the host team and Larned.

In the opening match of the evening with host Haven, the Lady Vikings battled hard while taking the match in straight sets (25-18, 25-17).

With the second match of the evening, Smoky Valley had a bit of an easier time with Larned as they took a victory over them in straight sets as well (25-12, 25-11).

Leading the Lady Vikings for the evening was McKinley Johnson who scored 23 successful serves which included two ace serves, while she also led the team in assists with a completion of 15. Bri Franklin contributed 17 successful serves with four aces as well as earning six kills, while Abby Rose and Kerington Haxton had nine and six kills respectively.

“It was great to pick up two league wins tonight,” noted Lady Viking Head Coach Sharlene Ramsey. “We are at the point in the season that every win becomes more important and moves us one step closer to receiving a good seed for sub state. Our team chemistry is improving, and we are really starting to be more consistent with the ball.”

Also playing at Haven were both Lady Viking junior varsity teams, with JV #1 earning two straight set wins over Haven (25-11, 25-18) and Haven (25-17, 25-20), while the JV #2 team split their matches, beating Larned (25-5, 25-6) before losing to Haven in three sets (25-11, 23-25, 11-15).

Next up for the Lady Viking spikers will be a junior varsity trip to Abilene on Saturday while the varsity spikers don’t return to the court until next Tuesday when they travel to Southeast of Saline in Gypsum.
