ELBING – Taking advantage of the coolest day of the season to run, Canton/Galva cross country runner, Morgan Becker, scored another school record on Thursday while running at the Berean Academy Invitational held at Harvey County Lake East.

Becker broke the school record once again, this time running a 17:00 which was good for second place behind Asher Brown of Remington who ran a 16:52.

“Morgan (Becker) again was the top finisher for us,” noted Eagle Head Coach Lyle Silsby. “He ran an outstanding race as he was in fourth place at the mile mark, second at the two-mile and then was able to hold off a fast charging Ian Carroll from Trinity Academy at the finish line to hold on to second-place. Morgan is such a great kid, and tremendously hard worker. It is really nice to see him having the success that he has had so far this season.”

Fellow Eagle harrier, Christian Darrah, came across the finish line not to far behind Becker as Darrah set another personal record with a run of 17:39 which was good for eighth place.

“Christian (Darrah) has had the goal to run under 18:00 and he did that handily today with the cool temps and slight breeze,” added Coach Silsby. “Christian is another super nice, hard-working kid. When he and Morgan run together every day, pushing each other to get better – it shows.”

For the Lady Eagles, Sofia Boninsegna placed 30th while Aleah Peres had a superb fifth-place finish in the junior varsity girls’ race.

Next up for the Eagle harriers will be a meet at Burrton on Thursday, October 10.
