PRATT – Once they got past the first quarter the Little River football team put the hammer down on Pratt/Skyline as they ran out to a 58-8 victory on the road Friday.
With the victory, Little River now stands 4-1 on the season and is on a four-game win streak since the first weekend debacle with Canton/Galva.
The Redskins Jayden Garrison scored an early touchdown on a short five-yard run and after Graham Stephens converted the two-point conversion, held an early 8-0 advantage. But the Thunderbirds surprised Little River on a 39-yard scoring scamper and after converting their two pointer, tied the scoreboard up at 8-8 after one quarter of play. It was only the second score in four weeks given up by the Redskin defense.
Beginning in the second quarter the game became the Garrison and Stephens show as Garrison lit up the scoreboard with four more scoring runs from 1-, 45-, and 35 yards plus a an 18-yard touchdown on a pass from Stephens, while Stephens added two scoring scampers of his own – one from nine yards out and the other from 40.
Little River held a comfortable 26-8 advantage going into the halftime break before breaking out for three scores in the third quarter and two more to finalize the win in the fourth.
Offensively, the Redskins were credited with 15 first downs to the Thunderbirds five while rolling up 315 yards of offense on 50 plays. The Redskin defense held Pratt/Skyline to just 122 total yards on 45 plays. One spot where both teams played even up was in penalties where they each recorded six flags for 65 yards.
Individually, Garrison had a huge night not only because of his six touchdowns, but he had 166 yards in total offense, 142 on the ground from 17 carries and another 24 in passing as he completed three-of-six on the night, plus he caught three passes for 53 yards and one of those six scores. The other side of the two headed Redskin hammer came from Stephens who totaled another 154 yards in total offense himself when he ran 14 times for 101 yards and two scores while also completing three-of-seven passes for 53 yards and the touchdown to Garrison.
Garrison didn’t just do the work on offense as he led the Redskins on the defensive end as well, recording seven tackles for the night, while Zane Kratzer had four and Stephens plus Evan Johanning each had three.
Little River will now prepare for a feast or famine Macksville who will visit next Friday, October 11. Macksville is 3-2 for the season and coming off a 48-14 victory over Moundridge but can be consider feast or famine due to being outscored 96-0 in their two losses while outscoring opponents 146-20 in their three wins.
