SALINA – The McPherson men’s soccer team played Kansas Wesleyan on the road Tuesday night. Though it was a hard-fought match, the Bulldogs fell 4-2 to the Coyotes.

Shots on goal were even between both teams; Kansas Wesleyan just finished their shots first half. The Bulldogs had one shot on goal first half by Anthony Bernal (Jr. Mckinney, Texas) off a free kick. Both shots on goal for the coyotes were deemed to be successful; one of them was in the 38th minute from a free kick on the 35-yard line. The second one was in the 43rd minute and was scored in the top right 90 of the goal. Both teams were extremely aggressive, and each ended the half with six fouls.

In the 48th minute, Kansas Wesleyan got their third goal and quickly after McPherson responded offensively with a team goal. (Kansas Wesleyan had an own goal.) Bringing the score 3-1. Kansas Wesleyan outshot McPherson in the second half, and for the total game, they had five on target while the bulldogs had two.

The Bulldogs attempted to make a comeback with another team goal in the 70th minute (again an own goal by KWU). That play brought pressure high, and both teams kept knocking the ball back and forth to their offensive sides. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs could not make up the difference in goals, and in the 89th minute, the coyotes scored in the bottom left corner of the goal; making the score 4-2.

Head Coach Doug Quint said, “We didn’t play well tonight in a lot of areas. Much of that credit goes to KWU. They did some things well tonight and just flat out beat us. We need to put this behind us and move on.”

The Bulldogs play next at home versus Bethel College October 16 at 7 pm.
