STERLING – While the Inman cross country team may have had only five runners taking on the course in Sterling on Thursday at the Sterling Invitational, they did score four personal records and two school records in the process.

Nicholas Martisko continues to have an excellent season as he once again broke the Teuton school record with a 5K time of 16:28.5 while finishing second to Buhler’s Tanner Lindahl who finished with a 16:01.06. Martisko’s time set a new school record previously held by Caleb Renner in 2015.

The other Martisko running for the Teutons, Hannah, not only ran her personal best for the third race in a row, she also broke the Lady Teuton record set in 2016 by Aisjha Miles, when she ran a 22:02.30 while finishing 32nd in the girls 5K varsity race.

Other Teuton’s running were Peter Buller who ran a personal best for the third week in a row in the varsity boys 5K, where he finished 52nd with a time of 18:58.80 while Brenton Thiessen placed 8th and medaled in the junior varsity race with a time of 20:06.00, not bad for his first race in a couple of weeks due to an injury.

Dawn Gunter was the only other Lady Teuton running and she placed 12th in the 5K junior varsity girls division by running a 27:27.40.

“I can honestly say it wasn’t the weather which was very cold and windy,” noted Teuton Head Coach Jay Parsons. “I do think the combination of a fast course and tough competition was just what the runners needed as four of the five Teutons that competed at Sterling set personal records for themselves. I know that regardless of the outcome, the runners made the best of it and competed well.”

Coach Parsons concluded his post run reflections by adding, “All the runners have made tremendous improvements since the first of the season and especially in the last few races. The goal now is to carry that effort and times into the league meet next week.”

Next week the Teuton harriers will run on Thursday, October 17, in the HOA (Heart of America) League meet at Westar Prairie Ridge Park in Hutchinson and hosted by Trinity Catholic.
