This Traffic Stop Tuesday for October 15 is presented weekly by the McPherson Police Department.

(Today’s Traffic Stop is SPONSORED by CROSSDOVE WRITERS)

Intersections throughout the City of McPherson are controlled by traffic control devices, such as lights, stop signs or yield signs; however, in some residential areas, intersections do not have any traffic control devices at all!

For your safety and the safety of other motorists on the roadways, we wish to share the traffic law that pertains to these intersections with you.

According to Standard Traffic Ordinance 57, (KSA 8-1526) Vehicles Approaching or Entering Intersection: “When two vehicles approach or enter an intersection from different highways at approximately the same time, the driver of the vehicle on the left shall yield the right-of-way to the vehicle on the right.

The law is just that simple.

Don’t make an issue of who got there first, when in doubt, be courteous, err on the side of caution, and yield the right-of-way!

We wish to add, when approaching an intersection with or without a traffic control device, please reduce your speed and scan the intersection for other vehicles and pedestrians.

For your safety, the safety of other motorists, and pedestrians – PLEASE DRIVE SAFELY!
