GOESSEL – The Little River volleyball team traveled to Goessel on Tuesday and tangles with Inman and Moundridge, returning home with one win and one loss for the evening.

Against Inman, the Lady Redskins began the evening with a marathon first set before finally scoring a win (30-28). Neither of the final two sets went nearly as long, but they did appear to be battles as the Lady Teutons scored a second set victory (20-25) before Little River bounced back and closed the third set out with a 25-19 win.

“We competed well tonight against a couple of very solid teams,” noted Little River Head Coach Kim Rolfs. “We started out against Inman where set one took what seemed like an eternity. Long rallies and tense moments. We came out victorious in the end and as a team we took steps forward in how we battled back and played under some pressure possessions and could take the set.”

In battle number two of the evening, Little River fell short in set one (23-25) to Moundridge before winning set two (25-19), only to not find a way to break out of a struggle in set three, losing (10-25) both the set and the match.

“Against Moundridge we fell short in set one,” continued Coach Rolfs. “We came back and won set two but had a huge struggle that we just couldn’t shake in set three. I was really surprised at our energy level after beating them in set two. We should have been more excited about pushing them to game three and instead we looked uninspired. Hated seeing us finish the night like that, but please at the level we did play at for most of the night.”

Coach Rolfs concluded her post match reflections by looking toward the upcoming weekend, saying, “We head to our tough league tournament on Saturday where it is usually a dog fight. Our goal is to be playing our best volleyball this weekend and we will see where that puts us.”

The Little River volleyball team will be in Hope on Saturday for the Wheat State League Tournament.
