HUTCHINSON – It was a championship day for the McPherson Middle School girl’s tennis team as they not only won the Pioneer League Championship, but also scored gold medals in four of the eight individual championships as well on Tuesday in Hutchinson.
The Junior Lady Pups tennis team was led by number four singles champion Jordan Martens as well as three of the four doubles duo champions, Kyndall Sandbo and Jana Bruce; Lauren Rogers and Paige Stucky; and Zoey Furgason and Courtney Delaney.
It was near domination for the Junior Lady Pups as they placed second in three of the other four divisions.
“Throughout the day, the girls displayed the desire to compete at a high level,” noted Junior Lady Pup Head Coach Paul Reichenberger. “For the 11 out of the 12 eighth graders that competed today, this was a back to back league championship for them. These eighth-graders have a bright future as they transition to high school tennis next year.”
Coach Reichenberger concluded his comments by reflecting on the season, his first as head coach, saying, “I would also like to add that in my first year as the Middle School tennis coach at McPherson Middle School, I couldn’t ask for a better group of girls and tennis season. I enjoyed each moment and I’m looking forward to watch these girls play more tennis in the future.”
