NEWTON – It’s that time of the season for the runners to step up and the Canton/Galva cross country had that happen on Thursday at the Wheat State League Meet when Morgan Becker scored another League title.

Becker ran the Harvey County West Park course in just 17:29 to not only score a really good time on what many say is a rough, tough course – but it won him his seconded consecutive Wheat State League Cross Country Title!

While finishing a little over a minute behind Becker with a run of 18:32, the Eagles Christian Darrah took third place.

Equally as impressive was the performance by the three Lady Eagle runners as Sara Boninsegna ran 24:41 and placed second while Aleah Peres placed fifth by running the course in 27:30.

“All the kids ran good races today,” noted Eagle Head Coach Lyle Silsby in his post meet reflections. “We ran the same course at the Burrton meet last week, and the course was rougher today than last week, but all the kids but one ran faster times. So even with the adversity of the footing they put in great efforts.”

Next up for the Eagle harriers will be on Saturday, October 26, in Hutchinson where they will compete in the State Regionals to be run at Prairie Ridge Cross Country Park.
