SOLOMON – The Canton/Galva football team, led by Brayden Collins literally went on the road Friday and literally rolled over Solomon, 60-0, avenging the heartbreaking loss to the Gorillas last season in the state playoffs.

It was the Eagle running attack that accounted for five first-quarter touchdowns as they posted a commanding 40-0 lead before the game even reached a second stanza.

Of those five touchdowns, four were scored by Brayden Collins on runs of 3-, 7-, 34- and 36-yards. Landon Everett added a one-yard dive for a score just before the end of the quarter and when you added in Everett’s three two-point conversion runs plus two more by Andre Patton, you get the commanding 40-0 Eagle advantage.

The Eagles only had to complete one pass in the game and when Everett connected with Kinser Colgin, it went for 39 yards and a touchdown. Brandon Huff scored on a 10-yard run and Andre Patton dashed in from 32 yards out to close out the Canton/Galva avalanche of scoring and give them the 60-0 over at halftime victory.

Despite Solomon having more offensive plays (37-19), Canton/Galva dominated the stat sheet with 244 total yards and 11 first downs in offense compared to just 39 and just two for Solomon. Since Everett completed just one of three passes for 39 yards, it meant the Eagles rolled up 205 yards on the ground on just 16 carries, while the Eagle staunch defense held the Gorillas to just 30 yards on the ground on 26 totes of the ball.

Individually, Collins rolled up 131 yards on the ground with his eight carries while scoring on four of them. Andre Patton averaged 11 yards per pop on three carries, while Everett ran for 21 yards on three and Brandon Huff and Garrett Maltbie each ran for 10 yards on just one tote of the pigskin.

Defensively, Nick Pearson was the leader for the Eagles as he recorded six and a half tackles which included four solo and two-and-a-half that accounted for a loss of yardage. Huff accounted for five tackles of which three were solo and two were for loss of yards, while Garrett Maltbie caused two Gorilla turnovers with interceptions. Overall, the Eagle defense recorded 10 tackles that caused loss of yardage while Conner Koehn had the lone quarterback sack.

With the huge win, the number-one ranked Eagles are 7-0 for the season and prep for their final regular season game before the state playoffs next Friday when they play host to Herington, a team that is winless on the season and lost 54-8 to Bennington on Friday.
