GOESSEL – Maybe it wasn’t the way they wanted to close out their 2019 season, but the Elyria Christian volleyball team gave everything they had into the two matches on Tuesday at State Regionals in Goessel, only to see the season end after finishing 1-1 for the day.

The Lady Eagles got off to a good start by battling hard and tough with Berean Academy before scoring a straight set victory (25-22, 25-23). Elyria was led in the first match by Ryland Hawkinson with eight kills, while Merrick Robertson and Kylee Penner scored 17 and 13 digs respectively.

With the 2019 season on the line, the Lady Eagles just could not find the right sequence of points to overcome Goessel and lost in straight sets (18-25, 19-25) to put an end to their season. Kilynn Starburg had a solid final match of the season with four blocks, as Alexus Swenson and Merrick Robertson each scored seven digs.
