HUTCHINSON ā€“ It was a rough outcome for the McPherson High freshman football team on Monday as they dropped a 28-26 decision on the road to Hutchinson in double-overtime.

The freshman Bullpups did manage to get a score in the first half of the game on a five-yard dash into the end zone by Jaytin Gumm, after which Hunter Alvord connected with Gavin Richardson for the two-point conversion.

It was a 25-yard pass from Alvord to Gumm in the second half which found the Bullpups in the end zone for the second time. Unfortunately, the two-point conversion failed, something which proved to be costly at the end of the game.

Alvord threw his second scoring pass of the day in the first overtime when he connected with Tucker Pelnar on a seven-yard scoring play. Once again, the Bullpups missed yet another two-point conversion.

Gumm plunged into the end zone from one yard out in the second overtime for his third score of the game. It was the costliest miss of the game, as McPherson failed on a two-point conversion for the third time of the game.

The freshman Bullpups will close out their 2019 season next Monday when they play host to Circle in a combined freshman-junior varsity game at home in McPherson College Stadium.
