CANTON – Without a doubt, Canton/Galva’s football team may be unmatched this season for first half routs as they closed out the 2019 regular season on Friday at home by point ruling Herington at halftime, 70-0!

What that means is the Eagles have now outscored opponents 466-31 for the season and scored shutouts in six of their eight games, including the last four. Powerhouse Little River is the only team to put more than a single score on the Eagle defense and that was 23 points on the first Friday of the season – a game that Canton/Galva still point ruled in the second half 70-23!

On Friday, when the two teams took to the field, even winless Herington did not expect to be so dominated by an Eagle defense that held the visitors to a total of -1 yard in offense on 29 offensive plays while giving away four turnovers, two on fumbles and two on pass interceptions.

While Herington had the ball on offense for over 29 minutes, Canton/Galva rolled up 247 yards on 16 plays in just short of seven minutes of offensive time while scoring eight touchdowns.

The Eagles rolled up 212 yards rushing on just 12 carries, an average of 17.66 yards per run. In turn those runs accounted for six touchdowns.

Andre Patton had a huge game for the Eagles as he 134 yards on the ground with just four carries of which three went for touchdown runs of 24, 62, and 42 yards. While Kinser Colgin carried the ball just once in the game but took it 39 yards to the end zone, he also caught two passes for two more scores on pass receptions of eight yards from Landon Everett and one that covered 18 yards from Garrett Maltbie. Everett and Cyler Johnson also scampered into the end zone on scoring runs of five and seven yards respectively.

The Eagle defense also put numbers on the scoreboard as they swarmed Herington quarterback Ayden Lawrenz backwards 20 yards into his own end zone for a safety midway through the first quarter and then Ryder Norstrom took an interception back for a score to close out the Eagle scoring in the second quarter.

Now 8-0 on the season and ranked number one in 8-man division I, the Eagles will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
