Becker, who has had an outstanding season, ran his 5K in 17:47 which placed him second for the day behind Asher Brown of Remington and a bit ahead of cross county rival Nickolas Martisko of Inman who placed third. Darrah finished his run in 18:04 which landed him in fourth and gave the Eagles two qualifiers for the Class 2A State Championships.

“Both of the boys ran a really good race today,” pointed out Eagle Head Coach Lyle Silsby. “Morgan (Becker) traded the lead on and off several times with Nickolas Martisko of Inman and was even in the lead at the two-mile mark. With about one-half mile to go, Asher Brown of Remington took the lead and never looked back. Christian (Darrah) ran with the lead pack throughout the first two miles and then fell back slightly but was able to finish the race strong and in fourth.”

Other Eagle boys running at regionals were Hayden Lance who placed 38th with a run of 20:40, Ethan Unruh who ran a 22:09 and finished 53rd plus Isaiah Patton who ran 22:16 which was good for 54th. The Eagle boys finished fourth as a team, 20 points behind third-place Ell-Saline and well behind Hutchinson Trinity and Ellsworth who finished second and first.

“I am very proud of the boys and the way they competed today,” added Coach Silsby. “They are both great kids and work hard in practice, and in the offseason, it’s great to see all that hard work pay off for them.”

Three Lady Eagles ran at regionals, with Sofia Boninsegna having the best day running a 24:01 and placing 19th, while Aleah Peres placed 43rd when she ran a 28:33 and Sarah Kendall ended the day in 45th running a 30:39.

Coach Silsby concluded his post regional reflections by saying, “All of the kids ran good races today. I didn’t expect anyone to set any personal records today, but all of the kids ran pretty close to their best times, and all competed well.”
