GREAT BEND – While the teams ran in the state Class 5A regional cross country meet in Great Bend on Saturday, the McPherson High cross-country team may not have qualified as a team for state next weekend, they did earn one qualifying spot as Courtney Eickbush earned herself a spot to run in Lawrence.

Eickbush ran her 5K in 21:20.78 to finish 16th for the Lady Bullpups and high enough to earn her ticket to run at Rim Rock Farms next weekend in Lawrence.

Three other Lady Bullpups participated as well with Evie Elder running 22:20.03 and finished 31st, Emily Heskett ended her run 52nd with a time of 24:17.05 and Marissa Pearcy placed 55th with a time of 24:47.41.

Seven Bullpup boys ran on Saturday with Justus Hampton and Cody Achilles having the best days running an 18:07.43 for 25th for Hampton while Achilles placed three spots behind him with a run of 18:14.68. Tito Mendez ran an 18:54.66 to finish 41st, Matthew Powers placed 44th with a time of 19:14.51, Riley Shelton ran 51st with a time of 19:51.08, Brock Burgess covered his run in 20:25.64 and finished 59th, and Roman Mai ended up 62nd with a time of 20:43.32.

“The runners gave it their all today,” noted Bullpup Head Coach Aspen Lott during her post regional reflections. “I had no doubts in any of their efforts. This group is full of some of the most determined, hard-working, dedicated kids I have coached. Proud of each and every one of them. Courtney Eickbush will be representing us in Lawrence at State next week.”
