GOESSEL – It was a good night to be a Teuton basketball player as both the Inman boys’ and girls’ basketball teams went on the road Friday to Goessel and opened their 2019-20 seasons with solid performances that resulted in victories for both.
The Lady Teutons scored a decisive 18-point, 33-15 victory over Goessel while the Teuton boys held on in the fourth quarter to win by six, 37-31.
Here are some quick reads on both the Lady Teuton and Teuton boys’ victories:
TEUTON BOYS HOLD ON FOR SEASON OPENING WIN:
While Goessel out scored the Teuton boys 13-4 in the fourth quarter to make the final score look like the game was close, for three quarters it was all Teutons as they went into the halftime break up by ten at 23-13 before doubling up Goessel on points in the third and entering the final quarter up by 15 at 33-18.
Junior Teuton, Mason Carter, led the Inman offense with 13 points while Kyler Konrade chipped in seven thanks to two three pointers.
“I thought we played super hard tonight,” noted Teuton Head Coach Brett Froese. “Going into this game tonight I was so nervous as I just didn’t know what I was going to get. I got what I thought I would and a little bit more as we were really good on the ball defensively and I thought the kids did a good job when we mixed up our defenses. I thought our full court man pressure caused them some problems throughout the game.”
Speaking of his offense, Coach Froese concluded his post-game reflections by saying, “Offensively we really drove it and kicked it out early on which got us some wide-open shots, we just didn’t finish early. Maybe nerves, maybe not, but we are going to have to finish those next week. When they went into a zone, I thought we moved it well and were able to hit enough shots to get them out of it. I was super proud of the kids and their effort tonight. Mason (Carter) was huge for us inside, I loved the way he played. Now game one is in the books and I like the team’s upside potential, though we have a lot of growing up to do, it’s going to be fun to see the process.”
TEUTON BOYS INDIVIDUAL SCORING (37 total points): Mason Carter – 13; Kyler Konrade – 7; Derick Johnson – 5; Kendlyn Blank – 4; Jace Doerksen – 4; Eli Brunk – 2; Kolby Blank – 2. Three-pointers Made: Konrade – 2.
LADY TEUTONS SHUTDOWN GOESSEL FOR WIN:
Just as they did last season, the Lady Teutons took pride in their defense on Friday as they held host Goessel to just 15 points in their 18-point, 33-15 victory to open the 2019-20 season.
The Inman ladies held Goessel to just a pair of points in the first quarter and only seven the entire first half while taking a 19-7 advantage into the halftime break.
Dantlie Raney led the Lady Teutons with nine points as eight different players put at least a pair of points on the Inman scoreboard. Inman scored nearly all their points the old-fashioned way as they hit just two three-pointers the entire game.
LADY TEUTON INDIVIDUAL SCORING (33 total points): Dantlie Raney – 9; Ashtyn Schroeder – 5; Hannah Martisko – 4; Raegen Neufeld – 4; Reagan Brake – 4; Taylor Thiessen – 3; Lauren Mauer – 2; Emma Froese – 2. Three-pointers Made: Schroeder – 1; Raney – 1.
