GOESSEL – From the opening tip the game seemed to be all Little River as the Redskin boys’ basketball team dominated Canton/Galva 58-20 on Tuesday at the Goessel Bluebird Classic.

After suffering an unexpected loss on Monday to Elyria Christian, the Redskins came out with the look of determination and took control of the game from the opening tip by blazing out to a 21-3 lead by the end of the first quarter. Little River then stretched their advantage to 34 points at 42-8 by the halftime break before slowing down and only outscoring the Eagles 16-12 in the final two quarters while getting the 38-point victory.

“Little River was very good tonight,” noted Canton/Galva Head Coach Shane Duncan. “We struggled hitting open shots, but the key was under the basket where we were outrebounded 42-20. All credit to Little River tonight and their top player, Jayden Garrison, who showed why he is one of the best guards in the area. We will get better the more practice and game time that we have.”

The Redskins Jayden Garrison led the offense and defense both as he had a huge night by pouring in 29 points, which included three three-pointers, while also pulling down 11 rebounds. Freshman Braxton Lafferty had another big night as he also earned a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Rylen Konen also hit double digits in rebounds with 10. Trey Rolfs also pitched in during the domination in the paint by the Redskins as he pulled in eight rebounds.

For the Eagles, Tyson Struber and Kinser Colgin led their offense with six points each.
