MCPHERSON COUNTY – It is now less than two week until Christmas Day and the communities of McPherson County are well into the Christmas SPIRIT.
Here we bring you an upcoming weekend in LINDSBORG – WHERE THEY CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS THE SWEDISH WAY!!
CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS THE SWEDISH WAY IN LINDSBORG:
The community of Lindsborg will have two holiday events going on this Saturday, December 14.
The day begins with the SAINT LUCIA FESTIVAL – a favorite Swedish holiday tradition celebrating the figure that is the emblem of light on a long winter day.
At the end of the day you will find an OLD-FASHIONED CHRISTMAS at the OLD MILL MUSEUM where you can enjoy the sights and sounds of an old-fashioned prairie Christmas.
A breakdown of the two events:
SAINT LUCIA FESTIVAL:
A favorite Swedish holiday tradition observed in Lindsborg where they celebrate the figure that is the emblem of light on a long winter day.
The day begins at 10:00 a.m. with a LIVE HOLIDAY MUSIC downtown.
Folk dancers, live Scandinavian music, and a processional of girls in white carrying candles and stjarngosse (star boys) lead the crowd to the Bethany Lutheran Church where the annual St. Lucia is honored with a crown of candles.
Stay awhile and enjoy ginger cookies served by Lucia herself.

8:00 AM – 10:00 AM – – Swedish Pancake Feed, Evangelical Covenant Church of Lindsborg Kansas, 102 S Washington Street. *The Proceeds will benefit Steps to End Poverty of McPherson County, an organization dedicated to forming a community around those in poverty, fostering connections, and creating pathways of opportunity and success for them.
10:00 AM – 2:00 PM – – Lindsborg Swedish Folk Dancers Sale, Julkärve & Swedish baked goods, Rendezvous Adventure Outfitters, 113 N Main St. *Proceeds to benefit TACOL, The Associated Churches Of Lindsborg, which helps fund several community programs providing for those in need.
10:00 AM – 1:00 PM – – St. Lucia & Star Boy crafts, Lindsborg Community Library, 111 S Main St.
10:15 AM – – Lindsborg Swedish Folk Dancers performance with fourth-graders, 100 block N Main St.
10:45 AM – – Procession to Bethany Lutheran Church, 320 N Main St.
11:00 AM – 2:00 PM – – Folktales & Story Telling every half-hour

The Tomte – The Good Merchant, 131 N Main St.
A Swedish Christmas – First Bank Kansas, 118 N Main St.
Saint Lucia & Star Boy – Lucia Park, next to City Hall, 101 S Main St. (inclement weather location – Lindsborg Community Library, 111 S Main St.)
11:30 AM – – Fourth Grade Saint Lucia Program, reception following Bethany Lutheran Church, 320 N Main St.
1:15 PM – – Folkdanslag performance in front of Bethany Church, 320 N Main St.
1:45 PM – – Lindsborg Swedish Folk Dancers Performance in front of Bethany Church, 320 N Main St.
3:00 PM – – Lindsborg Swedish Folk Dancers’ Saint Lucia Program at Bethany Church, 320 N Main St. Cookies and cider served after program.
OLD-FASHIONED CHRISTMAS AT THE OLD MILL:
Finish the day off from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the McPherson County Old Mill Museum located at 120 East Mill Street in Lindsborg.
The Old Mill Museum will be filled with the sights and sounds of an OLD-FASHIONED PRAIRIE CHRISTMAS!

- Have a guided tour of the historic Smoky Valley Roller Mills
- Enjoy a chat with Santa Claus
- Have fun with the children as they do crafts and cookie decorating.
