COLBY – It was a good day for the McPherson boys wrestling team on Saturday as they finished the day winning six out of seven matches to place second to Dodge City at the Colby Invitational while Landon Frantz, not only finished unbeaten at his weight division – he won the Most Outstanding Wrestler award.

Frantz, a senior, finished his day unbeaten at 7-0 and winning all seven by falls. Included in his victories were two wins over the number-one ranked wrestlers in both Class 5A and 3A.

Besides Frantz, the Bullpups had two other wrestlers that went undefeated for the day at 7-0 with Jonah Clarke at 170 and Mason Thrash at 220. Kourtney Craig at 182, Rhett Edmonson at 145 and Treyton Pelnar at 106 ended their days with records of 6-1. Side note – Treyton Pelnar’s only loss came when he was asked to step up to 113 to replace his brother Tucker when he was injured during his fifth match of the day. Until his injury which cost him his fifth match, Tucker Pelnar had been 4-0 for the day. Finishing the day with just two losses out of seven matches were Collin Pearson and Landon Crews at 132 and 138 respectively.

As a team, the Bullpups blew through their first four matches with Oakley (72-6); Lexington, Nebraska (49-18); Pine Creek, Colorado (62-12); and Hays (60-12) before being pushed by Wray, Colorado (39-29) and host Colby (38-24) and then losing in the team championship match with Dodge City, 24-48.


With just one week to go before the Christmas break, the Bullpup wrestlers will be busy with a dual at Augusta on Thursday before closing out the pre-break schedule at the Abilene Invitational on Saturday.
