CLAY CENTER – While much of the Smoky Valley wrestling team had a rough day on Saturday at the 12-team Clay Center Invitational, Dax Hopp was not one of them as he remained unbeaten for the season by blowing through his 182 pound weight class to take first place on the day.

Hopp, took on four wrestlers and pinned all four within two minutes of their match. Hopp, currently ranked number four in Class 4A for his division, is now 11-0 on the season

The only other Viking wrestler to finish within the top four in their division was 195-pound Tanner Luttig who ended his day at 3-1 and finished second after losing to Garrion Champoux of Concordia in his final match of the day.

As a team, Smoky Valley finished eighth with 46 team points as Hoxie and Valley Center finished first and second with 147 and 128.5 points respectively.


The Viking wrestlers have one more meet before the holiday break as they will be at the Abilene Invitational on Saturday, December 21.

VIKINGS scored 46 team points and finished 8th.

120 – Devon VanFosson went 1-3 and finished 7th.

126 – Justice Gardner went 3-2 and finished 5th.

145 – Braunson Golden went 3-2 and finished 5th.

152 – Austin Sharp went 0-4.

160 – Richard Zeller went 1-4 and finished 11th.

182 – Dax Hopp went 4-0 and finished 1st.

195 – Tanner Luttig went 3-1 and finished 2nd.

220 – LeRoy Bean went 0-4.
