OXFORD – It was a solid start to the 2020 side of the schedule for the Moundridge boys basketball team on Friday as they went on the road and dismantled Oxford from the opening tip to gain a overwhelming 40-point, 63-23 victory.
The Wildcats dominated from the opening tip as they shutout Oxford in the first quarter while pouring in 24 points. By the time the halftime break came, Moundridge was holding a 33-point advantage at 41-8.
“We played hungry tonight,” noted Wildcat Head Coach Vance Unrau in his post-game reflections. “We challenged the guys over break to have and sense an urgency and a higher level of concern about nearly every aspect of how we had been playing. I have to say that I struggled tonight trying to find many flaws at either end of the floor. We played with energy and confidence. I am most pleased with out defensive pressure and intensity, plus the fact that nine guys scored for us.”
Moundridge kept up the pressure in the third quarter, outscoring the host team 18-11 to hold a 59-19 lead as they cruised through the fourth quarter for the final 40-point victory.
While nine Wildcats put points by their name in the scorebook, it was Brady Helms who led the way with 14 while both Jon Schlosser and Corbin Unruh each chipped in for 10 and Landon Kaufman just missed double digits with nine.
Unruh powered the offense as he got credit for eight assists while Schlosser led the team in the paint with five rebounds.
The victory doubles the Wildcat wins for the season as they are now 2-5 for the season and will be back on the hardwood on Tuesday, January 7 when they host Marion.
