MCPHERSON – The McPherson Middle School seventh-grade girls basketball teams came out of the holiday break in fine fashion as they opened their 2020 side of the schedule with two home court victories over Salina Lakewood on Monday.

In the 7th grade Junior Lady Pups ‘A’ game, they scored a 15-point, 34-19 victory despite being down by two points at the halftime break.

“The girls were down at the half by two,” noted 7th grade Junior Lady Pups Head Coach Melissa Wade. “After our halftime conversation, they came out and showed what they were able to do. Fifteen of our 34 points occurred in the fourth quarter. The girls showed what they needed to do in order to secure the win.”

Ellie Bower led the ‘A’ team on offense with 13 points.

Like the ‘A’ team, the ‘B’ team used a strong second half to score themselves a nine-point, 28-19 victory on Tuesday over Salina Lakewood.

According to Coach Wade, the girls were playing Lakewood neck and neck until the second half, when like the ‘A’ game, the girls stepped it up and scored 20 points to gain the nine-point win. Coach Wade was also heard to say that the ‘B’ team girls all played hard and did what they needed to do in securing their victory as well.

Nine Junior Lady Pups put points in the scorebook in the ‘B’ game with Kenzie Kaufman and Adalyn Herrera leading the way with six points each.
