SALINA – It was a good day on Thursday for the two McPherson Middle School seventh-grade girls basketball teams as they both scored victories over Salina South.

7TH GRADE JUNIOR LADY PUPS ‘A’ TEAM WINS BY 9!

The Junior Lady Pups seventh grade ‘A’ team used a huge second quarter to score a nine-point, 30-21 victory over Salina South.

When the offense poured in 17 points in the second quarter while the Junior Lady Pups defense held South to just three, the difference in the game was made to get the big victory.

Cora Pavlovich just missed double digits in the scorebook with nine points to lead McPherson, while Ellie Bower chipped in with eight and Josie Fitzmorris hit for six.

“We out scored Salina South 17-3 in that second quarter and that was ultimately the difference,” noted 7th Grade Junior Lady Pup Head Coach Melissa Wade. “We played really solid defense and had a stretch in that second quarter where these girls proved they can score the ball too.”

7th GRADE JUNIOR LADY PUPS ‘B’ TEAM GAIN 21-POINT WIN!

The Junior Lady Pups seventh grade ‘B’ team played relentless defense while using a very balanced offense to score a 21-point, 35-14, dismantling victory over Salina South.

Nine McPherson girls put points by their name in the scorebook, led by Adalyn Herrera and Josie Fitzmorris who each scored seven, while Izabel Backhus had six.

“These girls played their best game of the season in the ‘B’ game,” noted Coach Wade as she finished her game reflections. “All ten girls who played contributed and they won all four quarters. Tremendous team effort today.”

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE 7TH GRADE JUNIOR LADY PUPS?

The seventh-grade Junior Lady Pups will close out their 2019-20 season next Thursday, January 16 with a road game at Hutchinson.

7TH GRADE JUNIOR LADY PUPS ‘B’ TEAM SCORING (35 total points): Adalyn Herrera – 7; Josie Fitzmorris – 7; Izabel Backhus – 6; Mallorie Cooper – 4; Kenzi Kaufman – 3; Reese Buchman – 2; Arihanna Koehn – 2; Addie Harlin – 2; Angelica Pena – 2.
