KAUFMAN, STUCKY HAVE HUGE GAMES!

By William

REMINGTON – Playing steady and consistent for four quarters helped the Moundridge girls basketball team to score a 32-point, 58-26, victory on the road Tuesday at Frederic/Remington.

The Lady Wildcats doubled up the points on host Frederic/Remington in the first quarter and held a 14-7 advantage early. In the second quarter, Moundridge scored another 13 points while holding the host team to just eight, giving the Lady Wildcats a comfortable 12-point, 27-15, lead heading to the halftime break.

Then the third quarter began and the Lady Wildcats outscored Frederic/Remington 19-5, giving them a more commanding 26-point lead at 46-20 heading into the final eight minutes of action.

One area of the stat sheet that showed the difference in the game was under the glass as the Lady Wildcats held a 25-13 advantage in rebounding, including 11 second chance offensive rebounds. The other was in the fact that Moundridge recorded 10 steals on defense.

Both Kourtney Kaufman and Katie Stucky had huge games for the Lady Wildcats as they tied for the team lead in scoring with 16 points each with Kaufman sinking four three-pointers and also pulling down four rebounds while Stucky had one three-pointer, four assists and recorded three steals. Two other Lady Wildcats also reached double digits in the scorebook as both Kate Eichelberger and Erin Durst each chipped in with 10 points.

After the game, Lady Wildcat Head Coach Vicky Kessler reflected on the team performance as well as some individual highlights when she said, “The Lady Cats pulled away from a feisty Remington team in the third quarter. Once again, we had four players in double figures. Kenzie (Elmore) had six rebounds and fought hard for each one. Katie (Stucky) had a career high with 16 points and played well on the defensive end. As a team we shot 44% as a team.”

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE MOUNDRIDGE LADY WILDCATS?

The victory raises the Lady Wildcats season record to 6-3 as they prep to host cross-county rival Inman on Friday.
