LITTLE RIVER – With the help of turnovers, the Little River boys’ basketball team out dueled the visiting Canton/Galva on Tuesday in scoring a 17-point, 58-41 victory.

Little River took the early advantage on the scoreboard with a seven-point, 18-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Redskins then extended their lead out to 15 points in the second quarter and took a 35-20 advantage over the Eagles into the halftime break.

While the Eagles were able to stay within three points, 16-13, in the third quarter, it also meant they did not chip away at the deficit either and despite outscoring the Redskins by one in the final eight minutes of play, still finished on the losing end of a 58-41 score.

Looking at the team stats, both teams hit for 38-39% on their shots from the field and Canton/Galva held a sizable advantage on the glass with 33 rebounds compared to just 22 for Little River, though the Redskins rebounds were evenly divided between offense and defense with 11 each.

The most glaring advantages in the game came with the Redskins hitting on three more three pointers while the Eagles struggled with hanging on to the ball as they turned it over 26 times to just 10 by the Redskins.

Little River’s Jayden Garrison had both the team and game high in scoring with 23 points which included three three-pointers, while Trey Rolfs also hit for double digits for the Redskins with 17. Although Braxton Lafferty only put three points in the scorebook, he did outstanding in other phases of the game for the Redskins as he swiped six steals and tied for the team lead in rebounds with five along with Garrison Rolfs.

Christian Darrah was the lone Eagle to hit for double digits as he scored 10 though Tyson Struber just missed a double-double by scoring nine points and pulling down 13 rebounds.
